What Is A Business Will?
A business will works similarly to a normal will, but it’s specific to entrepreneurs, CEOs, and anyone who has ownership of a business.
You can create a business will if you are the sole owner or a co-owner of an LLC< S-Corp, C-Corp, etc.
It does NOT include details regarding what will happen to your personal belongings, personal home, personal vehicles, etc. in the case of your untimely passing.
It only centers around what will happen to your business, who will own it, who will operate it, ect.
What If I Get A Will?
If you fail to establish what will happen to your business after your passing, it can be a long and arduous task to determine what happens to your business. It becomes the court’s responsibility to determine whom they deem best to take ownership of the company. They may not choose who you’d like them to choose.
While all of that is happening, your business will struggle as no one is able to truly step up and take charge.
Or, if you have partners, they will have a difficult time as they have to take on a new business partner that they didn’t sign up for.
When Should I Get One?
You should get a business will as soon as your business becomes profitable. You want to ensure that your life’s work ends up benefiting the people that are the most important to you.
